The "Localization and Strategic Cooperation Event & Domestic Product Promotion Days in Healthcare," organized by the OSTİM Medical Industry Cluster in collaboration with the Turkish Health Institutes Presidency (TÜSEB) and the Ankara Provincial Health Directorate, and supported by the Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) and the OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone, was held with high-level participation and great success in the conference hall and foyer area of Ankara Etlik City Hospital.
This prestigious event, where the vision of complete independence and localization in the healthcare sector was discussed and which brought together clinicians and local industrialists directly, was also attended by the Minister of Health of the Republic of Turkey, Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu, who personally demonstrated the strong support they provide to our domestic medical industry.
Our Minister and the Protocol Delegation Visited Each Stand One by One The event program began with a visit to the local product stands in the foyer area. During the visits, which took place under the leadership of our Minister of Health; OSTİM OSB Board Chairman Orhan Aydın, Cluster Board Chairman Fatin Dağçınar, TÜSEB President Prof. Dr. Ümit Kervan, Health Sciences University (SBÜ) Rector Prof. Dr. Kemalettin Aydın, Ankara Provincial Health Director Specialist Dr. Ali Niyazi Kurtcebe and valuable institution managers were present.
The delegation visited each of the stands of our 23 distinguished cluster member manufacturers, showcasing their high engineering and domestic production capabilities in their respective fields. Receiving detailed information from the manufacturers about medical devices, consumables, and innovative projects in the R&D phase, the Minister of Health and his accompanying delegation expressed their pride and satisfaction with the production power of Turkish engineers and industrialists.
Emphasis on Complete Independence in Healthcare During Opening Speeches Following the visits to the stands, the official program began in the conference hall. In the opening speeches section of the program, our Chairman of the Board of Directors of OSTİM Medical Industry Cluster, Fatin Dağçınar, our President of TÜSEB, Prof. Dr. Ümit Kervan, our Rector of SBÜ, Prof. Dr. Kemalettin Aydın, and our Minister of Health of the Republic of Turkey, Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu, took the podium and touched upon the national importance and production power of localization in healthcare.
Taking the podium, our Group President Fatin Dağçınar emphasized that the medical industry is not only an economic activity but also one of the most strategic national security issues of a country, highlighting our production capacity. In his speech, Dağçınar stated:
"Every innovation displayed on those modest tables in the foyer today is a testament to the unwavering belief of Turkish industrialists in the engineering potential of this country. Let's work together to transform these domestic R&D projects, with your vision and the strong will of our government, into global brands. If we trust in our own production power, and if we stand shoulder to shoulder with our doctors, our academia, and our industry, there is no technological obstacle we cannot overcome, no advanced technology device we cannot produce. We express our gratitude to our esteemed Minister and all our state officials who honored us by not leaving us alone."
He included the following statements.
Minister Memişoğlu: "Our Roadmap for 41 Critical Devices is Ready, Domestic Production Rate Has Risen to 31%" Crowning the opening speeches, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Turkey, Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu, clearly demonstrated Turkey's determination to increase the domestic production rate in health technologies with very clear data. Minister Memişoğlu announced that thanks to the determined policies implemented, the rate of domestic production in public medical device procurements has increased from 24 percent to over 31 percent in the last year.
Minister Memişoğlu stated that they have created a comprehensive roadmap to produce 41 critical medical devices, which are of strategic importance for complete independence in the health industry, using domestic resources, and drew attention to strong collaborations, adding the following:
"Today, neither governments nor companies alone are sufficient. The stronger the ecosystems, the greater the success. While we used to ask 'Can we do it?', today we need to think about which technology we should develop and which aspect of it we can improve that will benefit the world. We will make the healthcare industry one of Türkiye's leading sectors."
In his speech, our Minister recalled that the first surgery with the domestically developed heart-lung machine, a collaboration between ASELSAN and TÜSEB, was successfully performed; he also stated that they are nearing the mass production stage in advanced technology projects such as domestically produced bedside monitors, hemodialysis and anesthesia devices, and artificial intelligence-supported endoscopic capsule imaging devices.
Manufacturers Asked, Management Answered at the TÜSEB Panel In the panel sessions that followed the speeches, localization strategies and R&D/Product Development support in the healthcare industry were discussed comprehensively. In the TÜSEB Question-and-Answer Panel, which was one of the most productive parts of the event and took place after the presentations, our manufacturers had the opportunity to directly convey all the issues and requests they were curious about regarding medical device regulations, clinical research, project support processes, and practical situations they encountered in the field to the TÜSEB executives. This interactive session, which took place in a mutual consultation environment, further strengthened the ties between the public and domestic industrialists in a way that directly aimed at solutions.
This visionary meeting, where decision-makers, rectors, provincial health administrators, chief physicians, and clinicians from our domestic medical industry came together directly, also opened the door to new strategic partnerships. As a cluster, we will resolutely continue to keep the wheels turning and produce in our factories to move Turkey to a leading position in health technologies.
