Today, a Turkish-Tunisian Business Forum is scheduled to take place between 10:30 and 14:00, followed by a working lunch.
According to a letter we received from the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB); on the occasion of the visit of the President of Tunisia, Mr. Moncef Marzouki, and his special delegation to our country on May 28, 2013, TOBB will host a "Turkish-Tunisian Business Forum" followed by a working dinner in honor of the President and his delegation on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, between 10:30 and 16:00.
The text goes on to state that the Tunisian economy, considered one of Africa's most stable, secure, and competitive economies, is based primarily on tourism, but also on agriculture, textiles, light industry, and phosphate production. It also notes that food processing is a priority area in Tunisia, with a focus on improving competitiveness in food products such as pasta, tomato paste, and margarine. The chemical industry is explained as being particularly focused on phosphate processing, cement, glass, and ceramics production, with fertilizers, paints, detergents, and cosmetics being the leading sectors. Finally, it is mentioned that the service, agriculture, mining, energy, and manufacturing sectors are also prominent in the Tunisian economy.
It is stated that Tunisia, thanks to its geographical location, is an ideal base for companies wishing to do business with Europe, North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa; that thanks to the Free Trade Agreement signed between Turkey and Tunisia in 2004, the trade volume between the two countries increased from $355 million to $1 billion in 7 years; and that Tunisia is the 5th largest trading partner in Africa for Turkey.
