The workshop, attended by our Cluster President Fatin Dağçınar and Cluster Coordinator Nilsu Erkanlı, addressed the effects of climate change on water systems and the resulting disaster risks from a holistic perspective. Our cluster was also represented at the workshop on behalf of the Disaster Management Foundation (TAM Foundation), of which we are a founding member, and the AFETTEK Platform.
The workshop, which included contributions from 66 high-level participants, assessed critical vulnerability areas such as drought, floods, water quality problems, infrastructure deficiencies, and data shortages. Innovative solutions to mitigate these risks, such as artificial intelligence, sensor technologies, data platforms, and smart irrigation systems, were highlighted. Furthermore, integration, data sharing, and sustainable financing models were comprehensively discussed in terms of policy and governance.
The common consensus that emerged from the workshop was that disasters related to water systems are no longer isolated incidents, but rather chain and systemic risks, and that data and technology-driven solutions based on the integration of water, climate, agriculture, health, and infrastructure are critically important in managing these risks.
This approach, which focuses on preventing disaster risks and increasing resilience rather than responding to them, is considered to contribute to national and international policy processes. In this context, the workshop serves as an important platform contributing to the COP31 process.
Our cluster believes that innovative solutions developed at the intersection of water systems and disaster management will also have a significant impact on the fields of health and medical technologies.
